Class Info

Beginner Class

Beginner classes aim to give the basic information about Capoeira Angola and its traditions. Step by step, the students are introduced to the main movements as well as to the musical instruments and some basic traditional songs in Portuguese.
Advanced students might want to participate in this class to refine their skills. This class is perfect for people who are new to Capoeira Angola no matter what their fitness level is.

What should I wear?

Wear a t-shirt, comfortable pants and low sole shoes (if you come from Capoeira Regional please do not use your graduation belt).

Intermediate Class

During the Intermediate Class, students work on more complex and advanced movements with the aim of improving their game and deepening their understanding of the concepts of the Roda and Capoeira Angola’s traditions. This class is particularly for intermediate and advanced students.

What should I wear?

Wear a t-shirt, comfortable pants and low sole shoes (if you come from Capoeira Regional please do not use your graduation belt).

Music Class

Music is an important element in Capoeira Angola. During the class students learn how to play the musical instruments beginning with the simpler ones before moving on to the more complex ones and also the songs that accompany the game. All the songs are in Portuguese, which gives the students a chance to learn a new language and culture.
Music classes are open to both beginners and advanced players since each one can experience and express rhythms and musicality at their own level.

The Roda

The Capoeira Angola Roda is one of the rituals of Afro-Brazilian culture that is still alive and practiced today. In ECAMAR Sydney, it takes place every Friday at 6:30pm and it is a time for the students to practice the movements that they have been training during the week. The challenges that they offer one another enables the students to improve their skills and have a fun game as well.
Everyone is welcome to come, whether you are a student who wants to participate in the games or whether you simply want to see a traditional Roda of Capoeira Angola. We ask you to come along 15 min before the Roda start.

What should I wear?

Wear a t-shirt, comfortable pants and low sole shoes (if you come from Capoeira Regional please do not use your graduation belt). If you are a regular ECAMAR student you have to wear the ECAMAR uniform (in white first and last Friday of the month). If you are a visiting student we ask you to wear the uniform of your school if you want to play.
